Go Deep
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” Philippians 4:8
As members of the Church, we are all called to learn and grow deeper in the ways of Christ. Christians are very clearly called to maturity and to more closely resemble Jesus each day. St. Michael’s provides many opportunities for this through discipleship, catechesis, and deep community. Consider how you might more actively engage with God and His Word through the opportunities below.
Sunday Morning Catechesis
Catechesis is the traditional language used in Anglican churches and means “to instruct” in Greek. We have classes for all ages from 0 to adults. (Learn more about our children and youth classes here.) Our adults go through a variety of Biblical, topical, and book studies. Past adult classes have included “Surprised by Hope” by N.T. Wright, a yearlong overview of each New Testament book in its context, “Emotionally Healthy Spirituality" by Peter Scazzero, “The Epic of Eden” video series by Sandra L. Richter, “Church History in Plain Language” by Bruce L. Shelley, and “Strange New World” by Carl Trueman.
Summer Catechism Class
Each summer, our pastoral interns teach an official Catechism class using the ACNA’s “To Be a Christian” that uses a simple question-and-answer format to instruct new believers and church members in the core beliefs of Christianity. Written by J. I. Packer and a team of other Anglican leaders, it includes over 360 questions and answers, plus Scripture references to support each teaching. This catechism covers the full range of Christian doctrine and life, drawing from the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and other important doctrinal summaries. This class is required to be involved in leadership at St. Michael’s or for Confirmation by the Bishop.
Men’s Discipleship Group

The Women’s Read
The Women’s Read meets monthly on Friday evenings during the academic year to discuss classic fiction literature through the lens of the Gospel. We are reading through “Sense and Sensibility” by Jane Austen and “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee this semester.
Biblical Greek Study Group
The Biblical Greek group meets every other Monday night and is open to anyone interested in going deeper in understanding the Bible. The group uses Dr. Bill Mounce's text, Basics of Biblical Greek.
Aelred Society
The Aelred Society meets throughout the year.
